Tomaso Poggio Integrating vision modules with coupled MRFs

چکیده

I outline a project for integrating several early visual modalities based on coupled Markov Random Fields models of the physical processes underlying image formation, such as depth, albedo and orientation of surfaces. The key ideas are: a) to use as input data estimates of the various processes and their discontinuities, computed by several different algorithms. b) to implement with MRFs the physical and geometrical constraints of local "continuity" of the processes and of their discontinuities. Processes are coupled to each other: the most common form of coupling is a veto one process vetoing another as in the case of discontinuities and the associated continuous field. © Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1985) A. I. Laboratory Working Papers are produced for internal circulation and contain proteins, lipids, cholesterol, polysorbate-80, and other compounds unsuitable for external exposure. It is not intended that material in this paper be applied externally; it is intended for internal consumption only. Serving suggestion: add taco sauce (not included).

A Biological Model of Object Recognition with Feature Learning

Previous biological models of object recognition in cortex have been evaluated using idealized scenes and have hard-coded features, such as the HMAX model by Riesenhuber and Poggio [10]. Because HMAX uses the same set of features for all object classes, it does not perform well in the task of detecting a target object in clutter. This thesis presents a new model that integrates learning of obje...

Automated Phenotyping of Mouse Social Behavior

Inspired by the connections between social behavior and intelligence, I have developed a trainable system to phenotype mouse social behavior. This system is of immediate interest to researchers studying mouse models of social disorders such as depression or autism. Mice studies provide a controlled environment to begin exploring the questions of how to best quantify social behavior. For the pur...

Cooperative Physics of Y Swarms: an Emergent Behavior

We have simulated the behavior of several artiicial ies, interacting visually with each other. Each y is described by a simple tracking system (Poggio and Reichardt, 1973; Land and Collett, 1974) which summarizes behavioral experiments in which individual ies xate a target. Our main nding is that the interaction of these simple modules gives rise to a variety of relatively complex behaviors. In...
